AWS Well-Architected Review

What is it? -
The AWS Well-Architected Review (WAR) is a review of a workload using the AWS Well-Architected Framework. It focuses on 6 pillars:
  1. Operational Excellence
  2. Security
  3. Reliability
  4. Performance Efficiency
  5. Cost Optimization
  6. Sustainability
Why do it? +
The framework checks that we're building in AWS using the current best practices.

I also do these reviews for free.

An AWS WAR is something you and your team can do yourselves using the Well-Architected Tool in the AWS console. However, it can be beneficial to have an outside party and someone who has experience with the framework help you work through it.

How do we get started? +
  1. First, choose a workload.
    • A workload is the boundary of the system that we'll focus on. It could be a whole system or a sub-system of a larger one.
  2. Find a time that works best for your team.
    • WARs work best when you have the right stakeholders and experts in the room. It covers many layers in the stack, so the individuals that understand the account structure, permissions, networking, and system architecture should all be included.
  3. Schedule time with me using the link below.
    • This will schedule a 3 hour block of time, because reviews typically take 2 - 3 hours.

During the call we will work through the questions in the Well-Architected Tool. At the end of the call we will schedule another hour within a week where I will review the output and provide recommendations on the 10 highest priority findings.

After the output review meeting we're done! Your team can take the recommendations and work them on their own, or if you'd like help we can arrange next steps.
